Presbyterian College and Campbell are meeting for the 16th time with PC leading the series 8-7. Each team won at home last season, with Campbell winning the last matchup, 53-40, on Feb. 13, 2018. It is the first Big South game of the season for both teams.
Presbyterian College is ending a five-game road stretch that saw the team play at Davidson, College of Charleston, Georgia, Furman and now Campbell. They welcome Longwood on Tuesday, January 8, for their first home game since Dec. 12 against Georgia Southern.
Campbell leads the Big South with 7.5 threes per game, but have done so with a meager .300 (83-277) average, while the Blue Hose are tied for third with 6.6 threes per game on a league-leading .388 (73-188) average.
In their next home game, the Blue Hose welcome Longwood to the Templeton Center. PC leads the series 10-7, but the Lancers broke an 8-game losing streak by sweeping the series last season. Longwood picked up a 75-60 win over PC their last trip to Clinton (2/10/18).
Presbyterian College ranks 15th nationally with a three-point FG% of .388 (73-188) thanks in part to Kacie Hall (.500; t4th nationally) and Shamani Stafford (.462; 23rd nationally).
Presbyterian College has shot .500 or better from behind the three-point line on three occasions this season: at Tennessee (.545), vs Georgia Southern (.552) and at Davidson (.500). The team accomplished this feat only three times over the previous two seasons (61 games) and four times over the last four seasons (123 games).
Presbyterian College recorded a season-high 23 assists and shot a season-high .500 (23-46) from the floor against Georgia Southern (12/12/18), bolstered by a season-high .552 (16-29) shooting from behind the arc.
In their heart-breaking defeat to Georgia Southern, PC sank a program-best and league-leading 16 three pointers. Freshman Shamani Stafford (7) and junior Kacie Hall (5) combined to shoot 12-17 (.705) from behind the three-point arc to lead the team.
In their road loss at Davidson, the Blue Hose sank a season-best 20-of-28 free throws (.800).
After zero double-doubles last season, Presbyterian's Bria Gibbs and Salina Virola both accomplish the feat against SC State on Nov. 20. Gibbs recorded a collegiate-best 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Virola scored 14 points with a collegiate-best 12 rebounds.
The Blue Hose are averaging 35.0 rebounds per game in 2018. That is an improvement of 6.2 rebounds over last season (28.8).
This season, PC has improved its rebounding margin (-1.5) after posting its worst margin in the Division I era (-10.2) a year ago.
In their loss to SC State on November 20, PC failed to connect on a three-pointer (going 0-9) snapping a streak of 178 games (12/11/12).
Junior Kacie Hall scored a career-high 30 points in the team's 71-65 road win at the College of Charleston (12/21/18) and tied the program's Division I single-game record and has finished in double figures in seven straight games.
With a 20-point effort against Furman (1/2/19), Hall moved into the team's DI top-10 with 650 career points. She trails 9th place Amanda Mills (722) by 72 points.
Hall was named the Big South Player of the Week (12/27) after averaging 25.0 points and 46.7 % shooting across a pair of non-conference matchups. Her 30 points against CofC ranks second among Big South players this season.
Hall went 11-of-13 from the charity stripe at the CofC to make the most free throws for PC since Mariah Pietrowski (10) at Charleston Southern (2/16/13).
Hall has now made 120 career 3-pointers which ranks 6th in the program's Division I era and 10th all-time. She trails Cortney Storey (125) by five threes.
Freshman Shamani Stafford has twice earned Big South Freshman of the Week honors (11/12 and 12/17).
Stafford scored a collegiate-best 24 points at Furman (1/2/19) on a season-high 36 minutes.
Stafford led PC with 21 points in 22 minutes off the bench against Georgia Southern. The rookie sank a program-best seven three pointers on 10 attempts and led the team to a program-best total of 16 threes in the game. Stafford also had a season-high three assists and three rebounds while committing zero turnovers.
Stafford started her career on the right foot. The Charlotte, NC, native scored 20 points and was 5-of-5 from behind the arc in the season opener at No. 11 Tennessee.
Senior Salina Virola recorded her second double-double of the season, third career, with 20 points and 15 rebounds at the College of Charleston (12/21). It was the most rebounds for PC since Keyonna Allen pulled down 15 at Xavier on November 26, 2014.
Virola ranks 10th in the program's Division I era with 116 career offensive rebounds, 7th with 27 career blocks and 9th with 66 made three-pointers. She also ranks in the program's top-10 for career FG percentage (.434), 3pt FG percentage (.344) and FT percentage (.800).
With an eight-rebound performance at Georgia (12/28/18), Virola passed Cortney Storey (346) for 10th in PC's Division I era for career rebounds. The senior now trails Chelsea Wright (370) by 16 total rebounds for 9th.
Virola needs just two more offensive rebounds to catch 9th ranked Rebecca Walker (118) and three more defensive rebounds to catch 10th ranked Chelsea Wright (241).
On Nov. 20, Virola recorded her second career double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds against SC State. Then on Dec. 21, she recorded her third with 20 points and 15 rebounds at the College of Charleston.
Virola's other double-double was a 15 point, 10 rebound performance against Warren Wilson her freshman year (Nov. 18, 2015).
Freshman Bria Gibbs recorded her first career double-double against SC State (Nov. 20) with a season-high 23 points and 13 rebounds.
Redshirt junior Ericka Blackwell-Boyden is tied for 8th in PC's Division I era with 20 career blocks.
