Liberty scored five runs in the opening two innings to take the eventual 8-0 win in five innings over the Presbyterian College softball team in game one of a Big South doubleheader Friday afternoon in Clinton, S.C.  The Flames took game two, 8-2.  Jonnie Petree and Macy Hyatt each led the day with two hits and a run scored apiece.


LIB 8, PC 0 (5)

The Blue Hose finished with three hits and four errors, with Liberty coming away with 11 hits and no errors.  Three different PC players collected hit, with Petree, Macy Hyatt, and Ansley Wilbanks each recording singles.  Alex Cook (0-7) threw 5.0 innings, surrendering five earned runs off 11 hits.  Amber Bishop led Liberty with three hits, with Madison Via tops in RBI with two, off her two hits.  Julia DiMartino (14-5) threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball, giving up three hits, with seven strikeouts.


Liberty opened the top of the first inning with three runs, the first off a PC error, the next two off a single from Via, giving the Flames the 3-0 lead.  An Amber Bishop RBI single brought in the fourth run in the top of the second, with another PC error the same inning resulting in a 5-0 lead for the Flames.  Liberty added three more in the top of the fourth off an Autumn Bishop RBI double, a Sarah Robertson RBI single, and a Via RBI single, to go up by the eventual final, 8-0 score.


LIB 8, PC 2

PC capitalized on a game two-opening walk by Petree, with a RBI single from Lindsay Harris to bring her home and put PC up 1-0 early.  Haley Caswell put PC up 2-0 off a RBI single, bringing home Hyatt, who was on base off a hit by pitch.


The first three of four Liberty batters hit singles to lead off the top of the third, the final one a RBI single from Amber Bishop to make it 2-1.  The next at-bat Alexia Taylor clearing the rest of the runners on base with a three-RBI home run to propel Liberty ahead 4-2.  The Flames added two more in the top of the fourth off an Autumn Bishop two-RBI double to center to go up 6-2.  An Alexis Erich RBI double in the fifth made it 7-2 in favor of the visitors, with a sacrifice fly by Autumn Bishop in the sixth giving the flames the 8-2 lead. PC rallied in the seventh, loading the bases off two singles and a Liberty error, but the final batter grounded out to end the threat and game with the Flames winning, 8-2.


Leading Liberty on offense was Via with her three-for-three effort with three runs scored.  Taylor led recorded three RBI, after she went two-for-four.  Autumn Bishop posted three RBI off a two-for-three effort at the plate.  Pacing the home team was Harris and Caswell, each of whom went one for three with one RBI apiece.  Kaylee Allen (0-13) went 5.1 innings, giving up five runs off five hits in the loss, while Elizabeth Engler (5-0) picked up the win, going 4.0 innings and not giving up a run or a hit.


PC finished with two runs, six hits, and two errors, while Liberty picked up eight runs off 10 hits, with one error.


For the Record

PC moves to 2-26 overall and 0-5 in the Big South, while Liberty improves to 24-8, 5-0.
