How It Happened

While UNC Asheville held the lead for most of the first half, the Blue Hose kept the margin within single digits, even holding a lead on several occasions, including 15-14, at 11:31, after an Ethan Kay three-pointer.  Asheville responded with eight unanswered to build a 22-15 lead with just under 10 to play.  Another three from Kay helped PC rally to four, 18-22, 8:30 to go, but the Bulldogs outscored the Blue Hose, 12-8, over the next six minutes to make it an eight-point game, 34-26.  A JC Younger three-pointer and Davon Bell jumper helped cut the margin to just four with under a minute to go.   Back to back Asheville free throws at the 37 second mark gave the Bulldogs the six-point, 37-31 lead at the break.

UNC Asheville increased its lead to low double digits several times in the first several minutes of the second half, but PC never let the Bulldogs take control, using clutch baskets including a three from Kay at 14:44 to turn a 10-point deficit to just seven, 41-48.  Trailing 48-59, Davon Bell hit a three-pointer, while Reggie Dillard added two free throws, to cut the margin to six, 53-59, 9:02 on the clock.  Leading by six, 63-57, with 6:19 to go, UNC Asheville scored seven straight to jump out to a 13-point, 70-57 lead, 3:09 left.  A Dillard lay-up at 2:53 ended the drought, but Asheville responded with a lay-up and three-pointer to push the lead to 16, 1:26 remaining.  Younger added a basket at 1:05, but that would be it as UNC Asheville came away with the 75-61 win.

PC’s 10 three-pointers made tied for 24th in the PC DI record book.

Maleek Catching pulled down a career-high four rebounds.
