Charlotte used a late second half surge to hold off the Presbyterian College men’s basketball team and take the 83-74 win in action Monday evening in Charlotte, N.C. Davon Bell led the Blue Hose on the hardwood with a career-high 27 points.
Stat of the Game
Charlotte shot 65.4% in the second half, while holding PC to 46.4%. For the game Charlotte finished with 54.5%, to PC’s 48.1%. The 49ers held the rebound advantage, 36-25 and posted a 14-2 mark in second chance points. Both team connected on 10 three-pointers apiece, with PC recording one more free throw, 14-13.
Blue Hose Player of the Game
Davon Bell led the offensive effort for PC, recording a career-high 27 points, helped in part by a career-best four three-pointers. Reggie Dillard led the team in rebounds with seven, just one shy of his career-high. Dillard posted his fourth straight double-digit game with 18 points. Jon Davis led Charlotte with 24 points, with Jailan Haslem tops on the boards with seven.
How It Happened
A back and forth game for much of the first half, Charlotte was able to pull away to a six-point lead on several occasions, the last off an Ausin Ajukwa tip-in with 5:49 left on the clock to give the home team a 33-27 lead. Those were the last points of the half for the 49ers as the Blue Hose closed out the first stanza on an 11-0 run, which included seven free throws, to head into the locker room with the five-point, 38-33, lead.
A Reggie Dillard three-pointer and an Armel TeTe jumper to open the second half propelled the Blue Hose to a 10-point lead with just under 19 to play. Charlotte responded with an 11-3 run to cut the PC lead to just two, 44-46, 15:30 left. It was the start of a 25-9 for Charlotte that saw the 49ers retake the lead and extend it to six again at 58-52, 11:02 remaining. A 7-2 run by PC, helped by five from Dillard, cut the lead to just one, 59-60, 9:21 to go.
The Blue Hose kept the game close, cutting it to two on several occasions, including 66-68, with 5:41 left, off two Davon Bell free throws. Those were the first two of 10 straight points for Bell, who finished the game with back to back three-pointers. Those would be the only points for PC the remainder of the half as Charlotte outscored the Blue Hose 15-8 down the stretch to come away with the 83-74 win.
Davon Bell posted a career-high 27 points, and was a career-best four-of-five from the three-point arc.
At least one Blue Hose has scored over 20 points in the last four of five games.
PC has led at the half in three of five games so far this season.

PC heads to Baltimore, Md., Nov. 23-24, to take part in the Battle 4 Atlantis Regional Bracket Play. The Blue Hose take on Nicholls State Thursday at 2 p.m., before facing either UMBC or Chicago State Friday at noon or 2 p.m.
