Allie Wright recorded a career-high 17 kills to lead the Presbyterian College volleyball team to the 3-0 win over aDelaware State in its second match of the Spartan-Aggie Invitational being held Sept. 1-2, in Greensboro, N.C. The Blue Hose took the sets by scores of 25-12, 27-25, and 25-17.

Scoring the Match
Leading by three in the opening set, 11-8, PC scored the set’s next eight of 10 points to storm ahead 19-9. The Blue Hose wouldn’t let up, ending the set on a 4-1 run to take the 25-12 win.

Much closer the second time around, PC and DSU battled back and forth for much of the second set. The Hornets took a 16-12 lead off a 4-2 run that broke a 12-12 tie. The Blue Hose responded with six unanswered, capped off by a Megan Jones ace, to retake the lead, 18-16. DSU kept it close, even reaching set point at 25-24 off a NaKia Jones kill. After an Erin Eulitz kill and Ashton Stewart block put PC up top 26-25, Caroline Henderson sealed the second set 27-25 win with her kill, off the Sierra Jones assist.

Delaware State rallied in the third set, tying it at 11, after being down early, 9-4. The Hornets took a 13-11 lead off the 9-2 run. The lead wouldn’t last long with the Blue Hose eventually pulling away 18-13, highlighted by three kills from Allie Wright. DSU cut the margin to four, 20-16, off a Sabina Szmajduch kill, but that would be it as PC took the next five of six points to win the set, 25-17, and the match.

Player of the Match
Wright led PC with 17 kills off 21 attacks and no errors. Jaclyn Brewington posted 23 assists, with Daley Gosnell posting 14 digs. Szmajduch led DSU with nine kills.

Stat of the Match
The PC offensive onslaught was the story, with the Blue Hose holding the 42-25 advantage in kills. The Blue Hose finished with a .319 attack percentage, compared to .116 for the Hornets. A lot of service aces in the match, PC led the category 12-7, with Megan Jones tops for PC with six.
