Three Blue Hose recorded double-digit kills, including Erin Eulitz and Ashton Stewart with 12 apiece, as the Presbyterian College volleyball team dropped a close 3-1 decision to LIU Brooklyn in the second match of the Benson Hospitality Invitational held Aug. 25-26 in Athens, Ga.  PC opened the day with a 3-0 loss to host Georgia.  PC lost to Georgia, 11-25, 21-25, and 20-25, and LIU Brooklyn 16-25, 25-27, 25-23, and 20-25.

Scoring the Match

Match One

A close first set early, Georgia broke open a 7-5 lead with a 17-5 run, which included seven unanswered, to pull ahead 24-10, taking the eventual 25-11 win.  A tight second set, PC took an 11-10 lead before Georgia battled back with back to back kills to retake the lead and pull ahead 17-13.  PC rallied back to tie the set at 17-17, and again at 19-19.  A Eulitz kill made it 20-20, but it was Georgia with the next five of six points to take the 25-21 win.  PC kept the third set within a few points throughout, trailing by just one, 16-15, off a Eulitz kill.  The Blue Hose made it a one-point set at 20-19 but four straight from UGA gave the Bulldogs match point.  A service error made it 24-20, but a PC error gave the home team the 25-20 third set and match win.

Match Two

Leading 17-14 in the first set LIU Brooklyn used a 6-1 run to pull away from PC and take the eventual 25-16 win.  The Blue Hose responded in the second set, keeping it within a couple of points and even tying it on eight occasions.  At 25-25, LIUB used a Filippa Hannsson kill and a PC ball handling error to take the tight 27-25 win.  A back and forth battle in the third set, PC went up 14-10 before LIUB rallied back to take a 20-16 lead.  The Blue Hose used a 7-3 run to tie it at 23-23, with kills by Sydney De Jong and Allie Wright giving PC the 25-23 third set win.  LIU Brooklyn broke an 18-18 tie in the fourth set with five unanswered to take a 23-18 lead.  PC cut it to 23-20, but that was it as LIUB scored the next three to win the set and match, 25-20.

Match One

Eulitz led in kills with six, as well as in digs with 11.  Jaclyn Brewington paced the team with 13 assists.

Match Two

Eulitz and Stewart finished with 12 kills apiece, while Wright was third with 11.  Brewington posted 38 assists, while Daley Gosnell was tops in digs with 17.  Stewart recorded four block assists as well.

Stat of the Match

In match one the Blue Hose recorded 22 kills off 91 attacks, with 20 errors for a .022 hitting percentage.  PC recorded 37 digs and had six service aces.  The second match saw PC post 53 kills off 170 attacks and 30 errors for a .135 hitting percentage.  The Blue Hose finished with 47 assists and 68 digs.


Brewington tied her career high with 38 assists against LIU Brooklyn.  Her 12 attacks was also a career-best as well.  In just her second match of her career Wright posted 11 kills, just one shy of the team-high.  She provided the spark in the set three win, posting five kills off nine attacks and no errors.
