DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 20 Duke Blue Devils took the non-conference meeting against the Presbyterian College women’s lacrosse team Monday evening with a 21-1 final at Koskinen Stadium. PC falls to 2-12 overall with a 1-4 mark in the Big South. Duke moves to 8-7 this year with a 1-5 record in the ACC. The game, originally scheduled for a 6 p.m. ET start, was moved up to 5 p.m. to avoid bad weather.

Stats of the Game

Duke outshot PC (29-4), picked up more ground balls (27-22), won more draw controls (18-6), committed fewer turnovers (22-28), completed more clears (13-11), and took more free-position shots (4-2). The Blue Hose made more saves (5-2).

Blue Hose Players of the Game

Kathleen Gerrits scored her free-position attempt for PC’s lone goal. The junior also had a draw control. Maura Talvacchia collected four ground balls and caused six turnovers. Cady Roberts grabbed a season-high three ground balls and tied her season-high with two draw controls. In 30 minutes of action in the cage, Kayla Koch faced 17 shots and made three saves (17.6 save percentage) with four ground balls.

Duke Players of the Game

Kyra Harney earned seven points in the win, scoring four goals with three assists. Catherine Cordrey also tallied four goals, while Ellie Majure recorded a hat trick with a pair of assists. Olivia Jenner won 11 draw controls with a goal, an assist, and a ground ball. Gabbe Cadoux earned the win in goal, recording a pair of saves against as many shots (100.0 save percentage) with two ground balls as she played the opening half for the Blue Devils.

How It Happened

The hosts scored three goals within the first two minutes of play to take the early lead. Duke would go up 10-0 on Harney’s third of the day with 11:46 remaining in the opening half. The Blue Devils led 14-0 at halftime.

Duke continued to press the attack in the second half with another five straight. Gerrits finally got PC on the board as she made a free-position shot with 5:21 left in the game. The Blue Devils then netted another pair of goals in the closing minutes to round out the scoring.


- PC is now 0-2 against Duke. The Blue Devils defeated the Blue Hose 23-0 to start the 2013 season.

- The game marked the fourth time the Blue Hose have played a ranked opponent in DI history.

- Talvacchia now has 223 caused turnovers in her career. The senior needs 13 more to claim the NCAA record.

- The lone goal marks a team low for the season in both goals and points. The Blue Hose had only three points in a loss at Campbell on April 5.

- PC’s four shots are also a season low. The team took five shots at Furman on February 22 and at Campbell.
