Alex Cook pitched a complete game two-hit shutout, while Hope Rogers went two-for four with three RBI, to lead the Presbyterian College softball team to the 4-0 win over Longwood Sunday afternoon in Farmville, Va. With the win, PC takes the series over the Lancers, 2-1.
Scoring the Game
Presley Bissett opened the third with a double to right, and advanced to third off a Longwood error. After Jonnie Petree loaded the bases with a single to third, Rogers laced a shot to centerfield, driving in two runs and giving the Blue Hose a 2-0 lead.
Petree singled to short to open the fifth. She stole second and advanced to third off a sacrifice bunt from Blaire Miller and scored PC’s fourth and final run of the game off a RBI single from Rogers.
Players of the Game
Rogers went two-for-four with three RBI to lead the Blue Hose offense, with Petree adding two hits as well. Gross collected a hit an RBI, while Miller and Bissett recorded a hit apiece as well.
Cook led the Blue Hose in the circle, going 7.0 innings for the win (5-10). She struck out three and allowed just two hits.
Recording hits for Longwood were Karleigh Donovan and Haleigh Kilby. Elizabeth McCarthy (5-7) started for the Lancers and went 5.0 innings. She gave up six hits and two earned runs, while striking out seven.
PC posted four runs off seven hits, with no strikeouts, while Longwood was shutout with two hits and two errors.
For the Record
PC moves to 16-28 overall and 5-10 in the league, while Longwood drops to 16-23, 5-7.
PC returns to Clinton April 22-23, for a three-game series against Radford. Both teams play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. First pitch both days is at 1 p.m.
