The Presbyterian College softball team scored four runs in the fifth inning, two coming off a Hope Rogers double, and survived a late Furman rally, to earn the 5-4 win over the Paladins Saturday afternoon in Greenville, S.C.

Blue Hose Player of the Game
Hope Rogers was two-of-three with two RBI, while Kelsie Sanchez went two-for-four with two hits and two runs.

How It Happened
A RBI single by AnnaRose Borrelli put Furman up by a run in the first, with the Blue Hose responding in the fourth with a RBI fielder’s choice by Megan Anderson.

PC’s four-run inning started in the top of the fifth with back to back singles, a walk, and a fielder’s choice. Kelsie Sanchez brought in two of the runners with a double to centerfield, with Hope Rogers sending in two more two batters later with a double down the right field line, to give PC the 5-1 lead.

Furman rallied in the bottom of the seventh with a lead-off single. After an error put two runners on base, Elise Smith laced a double to center to bring in a run. A single down the left field line from Borrelli made it 5-3, before Candace Johnson’s single through the left side cut the margin to just one. A strikeout looking two batters later ended the rally, however.

Final Lines
PC finished with five runs off seven hits and one error, while Furman posted four runs off eight hits and no errors.

Kaylee Allen moved to 1-1 on the year after going 6.1 innings, surrendering three earned runs off eight hits, with two strikeouts. Alex Cook picked up the save (1), going 0.2 innings of hitless and scoreless softball. Emily Demonte (1-3) went 5.0 innings, surrendering five runs off six hits. Elis Smith came in relief for 2.0 innings, giving up just one hit.
