Liberty hit 12 three-pointers, including seven in the second half, to pull away from the Presbyterian College men’s basketball team and take the 77-61 win Thursday evening in Big South action at Templeton Center in Clinton, S.C. JC Younger paced the Blue Hose with a career-high 21 points, with Ed Drew following with 16.

JC Younger eclipsed his career high with 21 points, off a six-of-eight effort from the field and two three-pointers. He also hit seven free throws and pulled down five rebounds.

How It Happened
Presbyterian College opened the first five and a half minutes of the game with a 7-2 run, before Liberty scored 15 unanswered, which included two three-pointers from Brock Gardner, to storm ahead 17-7, 10:05 left in the half. PC, ignited by a three from Reggie Dillard, chipped the lead to within three, 20-17, 5:38 on the clock, off a 10-2 run. Both teams traded baskets the next several minutes, with Liberty scoring the final four points of the half, to go into the locker room with the 31-23 lead.
Leading by nine with 18:13 to go in the game, Liberty hoisted up three three-pointers in a 14-6 run that saw the Flames build a 17-point, 50-33, lead, 13:31 to go. A JC Younger three-pointer at 11:59 cut the margin to 14 but that was as close as PC would get, with the Flames building a 20-point lead, 58-38, 10:04 to go. The Flames led by as much as 21, 70-49, 5:30 to play, before a 6-0 PC run cut the lead to 15. The Flames would take the 77-61 win.
The 12 three pointers by Liberty marks the 10th time this season an opponent has posted double-digit threes.
PC led an opponent in rebounds for the third time this season, holding the Flames to 23 rebounds, compared to 30 for PC. Of those, 21 were defensive.
The Blue Hose paced the Flames in the paint, 36-28, the fifth highest total of the season.
The home team hit double-digit free throws for the seventh time this season, going 14-of-17 from the line.
For the Record
PC drops to 4-8 overall and 0-1 in the league, while Liberty improves to 6-8, 1-0.
The Blue Hose head to Campbell on Saturday, Dec 31, for a 2 p.m., meeting with the Camels.
