The Presbyterian College women’s basketball team came up short against 23rd-ranked Indiana, falling 71-37 Friday night in Bloomington, Ind., in the season-opener for both teams. The Blue Hose fought back from a 17 point deficit at halftime to trail by 11 points halfway through the third quarter, but the Hoosiers used a fourth quarter run to extend their lead and come away with the victory. The Blue Hose were led by Janie Miles with 12 points, seven of which came in the third quarter, while Rebecca Walker chipped in nine. 

How it Happened
PC traded baskets with IU through the most of the first quarter, taking a 7-6 lead off a three pointer by Kaycie Reffner at the 5:48 mark. The Hoosiers scored five straight points before a layup from Walker cut the home team’s lead to two. An eight point IU run ended the first quarter and gave the Hoosiers a 19-9 lead. PC battled back in the middle of the second quarter, and kept it within seven off of layups from Cortney Storey and Taylor Petty, before IU extended their lead out to 17 points at the halftime break.

The Blue Hose started the third quarter strong and used a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 11 points, 38-27 with just over seven minutes left in the quarter after a layup from Miles. But the Hoosiers used a 15-5 run over the remaining minutes to go up 53-32 heading into the fourth quarter. In the last stanza IU extended their lead and held PC scoreless over the last four minutes, eventually taking the 71-37 victory.

Players of the Game
Janie Miles scored 12 total points, including seven points in the third quarter, to lead PC. She was 5-8 from the field, with two three-point baskets. Rebecca Walker added nine points, while Taylor Petty tallied eight.

Stats of the Match
The Blue Hose went 16-45 overall and 5-19 from behind the arc, shooting 35.6% from the field. PC tallied 18 total rebounds, including nine offensive boards.

IU shot 53.6% from the field, going 30-56 total, and 3-10 from three. The Hoosiers grabbed 40 total rebounds, with 20 being offensive, to score 24 second chance points.

Record
PC drops to 0-1, while Indiana improves to 1-0.
