The Presbyterian College volleyball team rallied with a win in the third set, but couldn’t overcome an early 2-0 deficit, to fall at Radford, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in Big South action in Radford, Va. Radford won the first two sets, 25-11 and 25-22, with PC taking set three, 25-21. The Highlanders won the fourth set, 25-20.

Set by Set
Leading by just two, 8-6, in the first set, Radford scored seven unanswered to build the lead to nine, 15-6. A Radford attack error gave PC a point, but the Highlanders scored the set’s next six of eight points to make it 21-9. PC scattered two more points, but it was Radford coming out on top 25-11.

A back and forth battle in the second set, PC and Radford saw several ties the last at 22-22 off a Martina Shamley kill. The Highlanders took the next three points, helped by back to back kills from Maddie Palmer, to win 25-22.

PC led by much of the third set, including 15-10 off a Radford attack error. The Highlanders rallied within one off five straight, 15-16. Leading 17-16, the Blue Hose used a 7-3 run to extend the margin to 24-19. Radford scored two, but Ashton Stewart’s kill sealed the 25-21 third set win.

The Blue Hose led on several occasions in the fourth, including 13-11, off the Davis kill. Shamley’s kill gave PC a 16-12 lead, but Radford fought back with six straight to retake the lead, 18-16. PC tied it at 19-19, but it was Radford with the next six of seven points to take the 25-20 set and match win.

Players of the Matches
Davis paced PC with 13 kills, with Mikayla Register posting 17 digs. Sara Rogers recorded 31 assists. Halle Tripp and Samantha Del Toro added eight kills, with Ashton Stewart posting seven.

Palmer led Radford with 17 kills and 15 digs, with Haley Kleespies adding 47 assists.

Stats of the Match
Radford led in kills, 57-43, and recorded a .273 hitting percentage, to PC’s .139. The Highlanders recorded 55 assists, compared to 38, and led in blocks, 10-5

PC drops to 4-24 overall and 2-11 in the league, while Radford improves to 22-5, 13-2.
