CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team fell in straight sets 25-12, 25-14, 25-21 to Radford on Friday evening at Templeton Center in Clinton, S.C.
How it Happened
The Highlanders stormed out of the gates to take a 12-1 lead in the first set. A kill by Sierra Davis helped the Blue Hose cut the lead to eight, 12-4, but that is as close as PC would get as Radford scored the next three to make it 15-4. The rest of the set was fairly even down the stretch but the margin was too great as the Highlanders took the 25-12 win.
A close second set early, PC trailed Radford by just one at 10-9 off a Davis kill. The Highlanders won the next eight of nine points to build an 18-10 lead. Another Davis kill and two Radford attack errors cut the margin to five, 18-13, but PC was held to one more point, an Ashton Stewart kill, with the Highlanders using a 7-1 run to win the third, 25-13.
The Blue Hose jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third set thanks in part to a pair of kills from Erin Eulitz before Radford rallied back to take an 8-7 lead over PC. Although PC was able even up the score at multiple points throughout the set, Radford pulled away with four straight points, after being tied at 21, to secure a 25-21 win in set three and the match at three games to none.
Player of the Match
Ashton Stewart led the team in kills with six and finished with a .545 hitting percentage.
PC falls to 2-13, 0-2, while Radford improves 11-3, 2-0.
