Every set was close, but it was Northeastern that came out on top, 3-0, in action Saturday afternoon at the Northeastern Invitational. The Huskies took all three sets by scores of 25-21. Two Blue Hose posted double-digit kills with Samantha Del Toro leading the way with 13, followed by Sierra Davis and her 11.

How it Happened
Tied 11-11 in the first set, Northeastern used a 7-3 run to build an 18-14 lead, extending it to 21-16 off a Jamie Bredahl kill. PC rallied to within two, 21-19, helped in part to back to back Blue Hose kills and a NU attack error. It was short-lived as the Huskies scored three of the next four points to make it 24-20. After a service error, Hannah Fry’s kill sealed the 25-21 win.

In the second set NU opened up a 17-11 lead before PC rallied to one, 18-17, in part from kills by Martina Shamley and Halle Tripp. A 4-1 run extended the NU lead to 22-18, with kills by Davis and Del Toro helping PC cut the margin to two again, 23-21. The Huskies responded with back to back kills of their own to win 25-21.

In a third set reminiscent of the first, PC and NU battled closely throughout, with the frame tied at 18-18 down the stretch. NU caught some breaks to build a four-point, 23-19 lead before two straight Del Toro kills making it 23-21. A Brigitte Burcescu kill and a Clare Lund service ace ended the set and match with the Huskies taking the 25-21 win.

Players of the Match
Samantha Del Toro led the offense for the third time this season with 13 on the afternoon, helping her to a career-high .478 hitting percentage. She was followed by Sierra Davis with 11. Sara Rogers posted 42 assists, with Mikayla Register recording 14 digs.

Northeastern was led by Hannah Fry with 13 kills, with Kristen Walding pacing the Huskies in assists with 39. Gabrielle Eyl posted 19 digs.

Stat of the Match
Northeastern held the advantage in kills, 45-37, and hitting percentage, .248-.233. NU recorded six total blocks, compared to four for PC, and had four more aces, 7-3. Presbyterian had more digs, 51-47.

• PC led in hitting percentage in two of three sets, including the second, .258-.237, and the third, .200 - .125.
• With 13 against NU, Samantha Del Toro was just two shy of her career mark of 15, set in 2015 against Fordham.

PC moves to 2-7, while Northeastern improves to 5-4.
