CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina sank 10 three-pointers and topped the Presbyterian College women’s basketball team, 60-47, Tuesday night at the HTC Center.
The Blue Hose went to 15-11, 11-6 in the Big South Conference, while the Chanticleers improved to 11-15, 6-11 on the season. PC wraps up the home portion of the schedule 2 p.m. Saturday against Winthrop at the Templeton Center.
Taylor Petty (Spartanburg, S.C.) led the charge for the Blue Hose with 11 points, while Janie Miles added eight points and four rebounds. Aianna Kelly (Newport News, Va.) led the team with five rebounds and two steals, added five points and two assists, while Cortney Storey (Fayetteville, Tenn.) dished five assists and added four points.
Ced Gibson led all players with 23 points and seven assists and pulled down five rebounds, while Nicole Isaacs dropped 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the three-point line and grabbed four rebounds for Coastal.
Coastal Carolina started the game on a 5-0 run before Petty sank a three-pointer and cut the lead to 5-3. The Chanticleers then went on a 6-0 run before Salina Virola (Huntsville, Ala.) converted two free throws. Storey ended the quarter with a free throw, while Coastal took a 14-6 lead after the first. PC forced five turnovers in the first period.
The Blue Hose opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run and Storey gave PC its first lead of the game, 15-14, with two free throws. PC ended the second period on a 6-0 run and took a 24-19 lead into the locker room. The Blue Hose converted eight free throws in the quarter, while they held the Chanticleers scoreless for the final four minutes and 26 seconds of the half. PC forced four turnovers during the stretch.
Coastal took back the lead, 29-27, on a 7-0 run in the third quarter. Virola tied the game up on a made jumper with 2:49 remaining in the quarter. Gibson gave the Chanticleers the lead after the third quarter, 31-29, on a made jumper.
The Chanticleers opened the fourth quarter on a 14-0 run before Petty converted a layup. The Blue Hose went on an 8-2 run and cut the lead to 50-39. Petty connected on a three pointer with 1:15 left that dug into the lead, 52-42. Coastal closed the game with eight free throws.
The Blue Hose made 13 field goals on the day with 10 assists and held a 13-2 bench points advantage.
