Ed Drew hit a career-high 26 points, while Reggie Dillard added 16, to lead the Presbyterian College men’s basketball team to the 95-79 win over The Citadel in action Saturday evening at Templeton Center in Clinton, S.C.
PC, which improves to 3-1 on the year, heads to Lexington, Va., Nov. 24, to take on VMI in its next game. The Citadel drops to 2-2.
The Bulldogs were led by Brian White with 18 points, followed by P.J. Boutte and Derrick Henry who both registered 14 points each. Zane Najdawi grabbed a team-leading 10 rebounds for The Citadel.
Dillard led PC with seven rebounds, while Markus Terry added 13 points with three rebounds.
The Blue Hose shot 59.6 percent (34-of-57) from the floor on the night and held the Bulldogs to 40.9 percent (27-of-66). PC edged The Citadel on the boards, 36-20, and had one more turnover, 21-20.
The Citadel scored the opening basket to hold the two point lead at the 19:46 marker in the first half. Layups by DeSean Murray and Darius Moore gave PC the lead for good a couple of minutes later. The Blue Hose took their largest lead in half off a John Majors, II, basket at 12:54, to make it a14-point game.
The Bulldogs pulled within seven several times in the half, the last off a White three-pointer at 2:58, but could not get closer as the Blue Hose answered with back to back baskets by Drew to help PC take the lead to double digits before a late three by White 35 seconds left cut the halftime margin to eight at 50-42.
Trailing by 11 in the second half, The Citadel used an 11-3 run to cut the PC lead to just three, 61-58, with 13:05 remaining. Quick threes by Dillard and Moore ignited a 12-2 run to give the home team the double-digit lead again at 73-60, 9:17 left.
The Citadel cut the margin to single digits, 84-75, once more with a Boutte lay-up at 3:36, but PC held off the potential rally, scoring nine straight to make it an 18-point game with over a minute to play. Both teams traded baskets with PC taking the final by 16 points, 95-79.
