SPARTANBURG, SC – The Presbyterian College men’s cross country team finished 8th at the Big South Cross Country Championships on Saturday, their best finish since joining the Conference.
PC’s saw its next three runners finish within 12 seconds of each other to round out the scoring five. Reid McCandless (Fort Mill, SC) ran 28:54, Alex Johnson (Lexington, SC) ran 29:04 and Chris Sacco (Rock Hill, SC) ran a personal best 29:06. Also competing for PC, Caleb Weathers (Woodruff, SC) ran 30:29 and Jake Birdsong (Summerville, SC) ran 32:02.
Campbell’s Lawrence Kipkoech ran 23:39 to win the men’s 8k individual title and lead his team to the 2015 Big South men’s team title. The Camels scored 31 points with Libery (42) and High Point (48) in second and third. Radford (120) finished fourth and UNC-Asheville (137) fifth. Winthrop (216) and Coastal (218) narrowly edged PC to finish sixth and seventh respectively. PC (228) finished eighth with an average time of 28:19 and was ahead of Longwood (240), Gardner-Webb (243) and Charleston Southern (309).
The Blue Hose will conclude their season at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship on Friday, November 13, in Earlysville, Va.
