ROCK HILL, SC – The Presbyterian College cross country teams were led by freshmen Sally Hart and Preston Meade at the College of Charleston Invitational on Friday. The women finished 9th and the men 6th in what was the final race prior to the Big South Championship.

Hart (Raleigh, NC) ran 20:03 to finish 28th overall while Meade (Alpharetta, Ga) ran 27:15 and finished 14th in the men’ s 8k.

The College of Charleston’s Cara Butcher won the women’s 5k by 28 seconds with a time of 18:13 and Western Carolina’s Liam Brooks won the men’s race by 30 seconds with an 8k of 25:54. The Cougars easily won the women’s team title with 21 points while barely winning the men’s title with 48 points.

Next for PC in the 5k, Ripley Fricano (Atlanta, Ga) ran 20:43 while Bea DiBona (Charleston, SC) ran her season’s best time at 20:50. Sarah Jennings (Lexington, SC) ran 21:48 and Hayley McCoy (Chapin, SC) ran 22:08 to round out the top-5.

The next three Blue Hose runners all ran season’s best times with Hydia Green (Union, SC) running 22:15, Lacey Hornaday (Myrtle Beach, SC) running 24:09 and Abby Waldron (Clinton, SC) running 24:48.

In the men’s 8k race, Duncan Gotfredson (Berkeley Lake, Ga) ran 27:49. Chris Sacco (Rock Hill, SC) had a great race in front of the home crowd, crossing in 29:21. Reid McCandless (Fort Mill, SC) ran 29:31 and Alex Johnson (Lexington, SC) rounded out the top-5 at 29:42.

Senior Caleb Weathers (Woodruff, SC) had the best race for PC, running 30:22 and missing his personal best by just 3 seconds. Jake Birdsong (Summerville, SC) ran 31:25.

The Blue Hose will return to host the Big South Championship at Milliken in Spartanburg, SC, on October 31.
