Campbell used 51 kills and held the Blue Hose to 19 en route to the 3-0 win over the Presbyterian College volleyball team in action Friday night in Buies Creek, N.C. The Camels took the sets by scores of 25-17, 25-12, and 25-15.
PC falls to 3-16 overall and 1-5 in the Big South, while Campbell improves to 7-12, 2-4. The Blue Hose stay on the road to take on High Point Saturday at 2 p.m.
Rachel Elshoff paced PC with seven kills and 23 total attacks, while Mikayala Register led in digs with 11, followed by nine from Sara Rogers. Jaclyn Brewington was tops in assists with 17 for the Blue Hose. PC finished with 19 kills and 93 attacks for a .032 hitting percentage, while adding three total blocks.
Campbell was led by Katelyn Layden with 12 kills, followed closely by Kayla Schanback and her 11 kills. The team posted a .314 hitting percentage with 51 kills off 105 total attacks. Mary Crema totaled 20 digs, while Summer Schuitema added 30 assists.
Trailing 15-7 in the first set PC rallied back to within three, 17-14, off a 7-2 run. That would be as close as the Blue Hose would get as Campbell outscored PC 8-3 down the stretch to take the 25-17 win.
A tight second set in the beginning, PC trailed by just three, 13-10, after being tied 7-7 early. That would change as the Camels held the Blue Hose to just two more points, while posting 12, to earn the 25-12 second set win.
Campbell led by as much as seven in the third set, including 17-10, before PC cut the margin to four, 18-14 off a kill from Sierra Davis. The Camels scored seven straight, including four kills in a row, to take the 25-15 third set and match win.
