Samantha Del Toro added 15 kills, while Ashton Stewart posted 11, to lead the Presbyterian College volleyball team to the 3-1 win over Fordham in the opening match of the FGCU Hilton Garden/Homewood Suites Volleyball Classic being held in Fort Myers, Fla. PC took the sets by scores of16-25, 25-23, 25-21 and 29-27.

The Blue Hose recorded double-digit kills in their three winning sets, including 19 in the nail-biting 29-27 fourth set win. PC finished the match with 51 kills, compared to 41 for Fordham.

Mikayla Register paced the team in digs with 21, with Rachel Elshoff and Del Toro coming in with 13 apiece. Sara Rogers posted a leading 43 assists, with Sierra Davis ending the match with two solo blocks.

Fordham was led by Breanna Jones with 14 kills, with Clarissa Cartledge pacing the squad in digs with 23.

PC started slowly, falling behind 20-10 in the first set, before dropping the 25-16 decision. The second set started much like the first with the Blue Hose falling behind early, 12-5, before fighting back with a 13-6 run to tie it up at 18-18. Tied against at 23-23, PC used a kill by Stewart and a block by Davis to take the 25-23 win.

The Blue Hose led a majority of a relatively close third set and took the 25-21 win, before opening the fourth set with a 15-7 lead. Fordham fought back and tied the set at 21-21, with both teams battling back and forth the next several possessions. Tied for the eighth time of the set at 27-27, Del Toro finished off the match with a kill and service ace, giving PC the 29-27 set and match win.
