Three Blue Hose volleyball players tallied double-digit kills to lead Presbyterian College to the 3-2 win over UNC Asheville in Big South action Friday night in Asheville, N.C.  PC won the first set, 25-18, before falling 25-23 in the second.  The Blue Hose rallied to take set three 25-20 but the Bulldogs eased to the 25-12 fourth set win before PC found a way back to win the fifth set 15-10.

PC improves to 11-14 overall and 6-6 in the Big South Conference, while UNC Asheville drops to 6-21, 2-9.  The Blue Hose round out their final road trip of the season with a Nov. 8, contest at Gardner-Webb.  First serve is set for 2 p.m.

PC tallied 58 kills, compared to 49 for the Bulldogs, while Asheville posted a .174 hitting percentage, to PC’s .151.  Service aces were fairly even with Asheville holding a slight 9-7 advantage.

Rachel Hall led PC with 17 kills, followed by Kelly Berryman with 13 and Ashton Stewart with 11.  With just four errors, Berryman paced the team in hitting percentage with a .375.  Mary Trimpe added 26 digs, while Ashton Franked posted 49 assists.  Rachel Elshoff recorded a team-high four service aces.

Christine Lakatos led the Bulldogs with 18 kills, followed by Catherine Fisher with 12.  Katie Davis added 34 assists, while Bryn Pfieffer recorded 19 digs.

The Blue Hose opened the first set with a 7-0 lead, highlighted by three service aces from Elshoff.  Asheville rallied to cut the lead to four, 9-5, before a Frank kill and Bulldog error gave PC the 11-5 edge.  The Bulldogs sliced the lead to one, 17-16, off blocks from Katie Creger and Davis, but a 4-0 PC run, capped by two Berryman kills, made I a 21-16 Blue Hose lead.

Another block assist by Creger and Davis, as well a block by Lakatos, made it 21-18 in favor of PC.  The Blue Hose ended the run with four straight, utilizing kills from Berryman, Elshoff and Hall, to take the 25-18 win.

The second set was a close affair throughout with neither team able to gain a foothold.  After a Hall kill tied the set for the 10th time, at 23-23, PC committed a serving error, while Lakatos added a kill to give the Bulldogs the 25-23 win.

PC stormed out to an 8-1 lead early in the third set, capped by back to back Stewart kills.  The Blue Hose held at least a four-point lead the remainder of the set, the closest the Bulldogs could get was 24-20 off a service ace.  Berryman ended the potential rally with a kill as PC won 25-20.

With UNC Asheville leading 10-8 in the fourth set, the Bulldogs scored nine unanswered to build a 19-8 lead.  PC was unable to get anything started as the Bulldogs held on the double-digit lead throughout to take the 25-12 fourth set win to force a fifth set.

Tied 5-5 in the fifth set, an Asheville ball handling error and a Stewart kill gave PC the 7-5 lead.  After a Creger kill cut the margin to one, the Blue Hose went back up by multiple points off a Bulldog attack error.  PC extended the lead to five, 14-9, with Hall sealing the fifth set and match win at 15-10.
