The Big South Conference announced its softball all-conference awards, as decided by the league head coaches, and Presbyterian College's Cat Tarvin was named to the second team. Erin Ruff earned All-Freshman team honors, while Morgan Durham was selected to the All-Academic team for the second year in a row.
Longwood's Brooke Short was named Player-of-the-Year, while Kiana Quolas, of Coastal Carolina, earned Pitcher-of-the-Year honors. Drew Peterson, of Campbell, was named league Coach-of-the-Year.
Tarvin has started and played in all 52 games, is third on the team in batting average (.316) and second in slugging pct. (.534), as well as home runs (8). The Lawrenceville, Ga., native is tied for first in runs scored (33) and leads the team in doubles (10), as well as total bases (93). Tarvin has ranked in the top five the last two years in batting average, slugging percentage, runs scored and hits. She has recorded multiple-hit and multiple RBI games on several occasions in her career. The senior currently leads the team in ERA (4.29) and opposing batting average (.298), and is second in innings pitched (63.2).
Ruff, who has started in 49 of 51 games, led the team for most of the season in batting average, but is currently second (.329). She is fourth on the team in slugging pct. (.483) and leads in slugging pct. (.416) and runs scored (33). Ruff is third on the team in hits (49) and RBI (32), she is fifth in home runs (5) and third in total bases (72). She scored three runs against Campbell (4/6) for a season-high. She also posted a season-best three hits at Liberty (3/23) and four RBI against Campbell (4/6). The Chardon, Ohio native's batting average is already second in the PC Division I career record books, with her slugging percentage first.
Durham has started in 51 of 52 games this season and is 6th in the team in batting average (.281), third in slugging pct. (.533) and runs scored (30). From Simpsonville, S.C., Durham is sixth on the team in hits (38), she is fifth in RBI (20) and second in home runs (8). Her total bases is 3rd (72) as well and her home run against Gardner Webb April 9th put her first in PC's career home run category with 21. The senior has been in the top five all four years in most offensive categories, including batting average, slugging percentage, runs scored, RBI, and home runs, as well as defensively in fielding percentage, assists and putouts Durham recorded a season-high three RBI against Gardner Webb Mar. 27 and has had multiple-hit games three times this season.
The eight-seeded Blue Hose begin tournament play Thursday, May 9, with a 9 a.m. game against ninth-seeded Charleston Southern. The Big South tournament is being held May 9-12, in Rock Hill, S.C.
