Down 4-0 heading into the seventh inning, the Presbyterian College softball team rallied back to cut the lead to two but came up just short in the end, falling to the Longwood Lancers, 4-2, in the final game of the Big South series this afternoon in Farmville, Va.

The Blue Hose drop to 22-28 overall and 7-14 in the Big South while the Lancers improve to 34-16,14-7.  PC closes out the regular season with a three-game series against Charleston Southern in Clinton.  The two teams square off in a doubleheader Saturday, May 4, at 1 p.m.  The two teams meet for the third game Sunday, May 5, at 1 p.m.

Leading Longwood on offense was Megan Baltzell, who went two-for three with four RBI.  She accounted for all the Longwood runs, after knocking a two-RBI home run to right field in the third to put the Lancers on the board, 2-0.  Her next at-bat came in the fourth when she knocked a two-RBI triple to right center, giving Longwood the 4-0 lead.

Brooke Short threw 6.2 innings for Longwood and allowed just two runs off five hits for the win (18-7).

Leading PC in hits was Cat Tarvin, who went two-for-three.  Courtney Lawton had just one hit for the Blue Hose, but it was a big one as she recorded her second double of the season in the top of the seventh that drive home Tarvin and Erin Ruff, who had reached on singles to start the Blue Hose rally.

Kensley Loudermelk pitched the complete game for PC, scattering six hits and allowing four runs in the loss (12-13)
