Spartanburg, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's golf team saw freshman Davis Parker and junior Carter Davis both claim top-10 finishes at the Coca-Cola Invitational on Tuesday. The Blue Hose claimed sixth with the program's Division I best total of 869 (295, 286, 288).
Parker (Augusta, Ga.) tied for fifth with a collegiate-best score of 213 (70, 71, 72), an improvement of ten strokes. His opening round of -2 (70) was also a personal best, and this was his first collegiate top-10 finish.
Davis (Spartanburg, S.C.) also shot a collegiate-best score of 214 (73, 71, 70) to tie for ninth. It was a seven stroke improvement from his previous best and his first collegiate top-10 finish as well.
Senior Matt Sizemore (Richmond, Va.) shot 219 (74, 71, 74) to tie for 29th. Sophomore Samuel Jackson (Pelion, S.C.) shot 223 (78, 73, 72) to tie for 48th. Senior Andrew Garner (Peachtree City, Ga.) shot 240 (84, 78, 78) to tie for 84th.
The team fell a mere two strokes from tying the program's all-time three-round best of 867 (300, 271, 296) set in 2002 at the South Atlantic Conference Championship. In a field of 16 teams, the Blue Hoserecorded wins over Big South foes Winthrop, Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern, High Point, and Longwood as well as in-state rivals Furman and USC Upstate.
East Tennessee State used a final round of 288 to pass the host Terriers and claim the team championship by two strokes, 853 to 855. Appalachian State's Caleb Keck shot an impressive 209 (67, 70, 72) to win individual medalist honors.
The Blue Hose will next compete at the 2013 Big South Men's Golf Championship played at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C., from April 21-24.
