Alves Named Big South Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Presbyterian College junior Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Tennis Player of the Week, while Liberty's Valerie Thong (Alhambra, Calif.) has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for matches played March 4-10, it was announced today by the League office. 

Alves went 3-4 in singles play and 4-0 in doubles play last week.  Playing at No. 3, she defeated SUI-Edwardsville's Haley Ilcewicz 6-2, 6-0 and downed Kristina Eisenbrand of Saint Joseph's 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.  Moving up to the No. 2 spot, she swept Meghan Woody of Saginaw Valley State, 6-0, 6-0.  Alves and partner Courtney Gardiner won 8-6 against SUI-Edwardsville at No. 1 doubles.  The duo, playing at No. 2, also bested South Dakota State 8-4, Saint Joseph 8-2 and Saginaw Valley State 8-1.  The honor marks Alves' first Player of the Week honor this season. 

The Blue Hose next head to Wofford for a Wednesday match at 2:30 p.m. in Spartanburg.
