CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College lacrosse team
dropped a non-conference matchup to Saint Joseph's at home on Sunday, 18-5.
PC moves to 0-5 on the season and will hit the road to take
on Stetson on Tuesday. Opening draw is slated for 7 p.m. Saint Joseph's
improves to 3-1.
Kelsey Rupsch (Libertyville, Ill.) and Lauren Lefeber
(Waxhaw, N.C.) paced PC with two goals apiece. Catherine Ellis (Waxhaw, N.C.)
registered her first two assists of the season in the effort. Four players led the team
with two draw controls each while Melinda Vasconcellos (Waxhaw, N.C.) collected
a team-high three ground balls.
The second period saw a much closer contest than the first, as
PC matched Saint Joseph's in nearly every statistical category. The Blue Hose
tied the visitors in shots (nine) and picked up 10 ground balls to six in the second.
Four of PC's five goals came in the second half, with three scored
in a row during a three-minute span. Saint Joseph's led at halftime by a 12-1
margin before narrowly outscoring PC 6-4 in the second half.
Bridget Hogan (Charlotte, N.C.) made four saves in the first
half before Sarah Glenn Neidenbach (Spartanburg, S.C.) entered for the second half
and stopped two shots.
Meghan McDevitt led Saint Joseph's with three goals and
three assists. Val Paolucci added three goals and two assists.
Saint Joseph's began the game on a 10-0 run through the
first 20 minutes before Lefeber put PC on the board with an unassisted goal at
the 4:13 mark. The senior beat goalkeeper Genevieve Giblin top-shelf to make
the score 10-1.
The Hawks added to more goals en route to a 12-1 lead at the
break.
The visitors scored two goals to start the frame before PC's
offense began to click. Vasconcellos found Rupsch alone in front and the junior
cashed in from in close for her first goal of the game.
Less than two minutes later, Lefeber beat Alisha Aquilino from
the free position to pull PC within 11.
Rupsch capped the three-goal swing by taking an Ellis feed
and scoring her second of the game, making the score 14-4.
Saint Joseph's answered with a pair of goals but Maddie
Seiloff (Marietta, Ga.) found the back of the net on another Ellis pass at 5:06. The
goal marked Seiloff's fourth of the season.
PC held the Hawks without a score until the visitors notched
two in the final 26 seconds of the game.
