CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's basketball team (13-10, 8-4
Big South) heads to the eastern coast of South Carolina for a weekend road trip
that begins at Coastal Carolina (11-12, 6-7) on Thursday night at 7 p.m. The
Blue Hose will aim to capture their program-record ninth Big South win while
stopping the streaking Chanticleers, winners of their last four games.
Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series, 15-8, but has
lost the last two games to the Blue Hose. Both wins came at Templeton Center,
most recently in a 50-30 PC victory on December 29. Karlee Taylor scored 19
points–thanks to five three pointers on seven attempts–in the win as PC set a
then-record for largest margin of victory in a Big South game. PC has four wins
in the last seven meetings.
The Chanticleers enter Thursday's matchup with an 11-12
overall record and a 6-7 Big South record. Coastal Carolina boasts a 9-4 record
at the brand-new HTC Arena and has won its last four games, topping UNC
Asheville (twice), Longwood and Radford in the process. Angelica Henry and
Shatia Cole pace the squad in scoring, averaging 10.3 points per game.
In the last five games, Mariah Pietrowski leads the team
with 11.2 points per game and paces the squad on the boards with 5.8 rebounds
per game. Karlee Taylor also averages 9.8 points per game over the last five
contests, knocking down 2.6 three-pointers per outing.
PC dropped a 55-38 decision at Gardner-Webb on Thursday
night. The second half broke a 22-22 halftime tie as Gardner-Webb outscored PC
33-16 in the final stanza. The Blue Hose went ice cold after the break,
shooting 14.3 percent (3-for-21) in the second after shooting at a 52.9 percent
clip (9-for-17) in the first. Karlee Taylor led PC with 11 points and played
all 40 minutes.
PC takes a week off from competition before heading to
Coastal Carolina for a Thursday, February 14 for a 7 p.m. The Blue Hose earned
a 20-point win over the Chanticleers at home on December 29, 50-30.
Mariah Pietrowski grabbed four rebounds on Thursday, moving
her into sole possession of seventh place in program history with 591. Already
the Division I career leader in rebounds, she stands as the first player in the
Division I era to tally 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. She enters Thursday nine
boards shy of Tracy Woody (1998-01) in fifth.
By going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc on January, junior
guard Karlee Taylor overtook Amanda Mills (2007-2011) for the school Division I
career record of 153 three-point field goals. Taylor took third place in
program history as well. The junior enters Thursday ranking sixth in the nation
in three-point field goal percentage, shooting at a 44.9 percent clip from
distance. She ranks second in the Big South Conference in three-point field
goal percentage while averaging 2.6 per game, good enough for third.
Senior guard Dria David enters Thursday two points shy of an
even 900, with 898. The Blue Hose ranks second in career Division I scoring
behind Pietrowski's 1170. Karlee Taylor also sits nine points away from 700
while Chelsea Parker needs two to reach the 300-point plateau.
