CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's and women's
tennis teams will both compete at Templeton Tennis Courts this weekend, with
the men hosting College of Charleston on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. before the
women host Western Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The men (4-4 overall, 2-4 in the spring) lead off against
the Cougars on Saturday morning. College of Charleston enters the weekend with
a 1-1 record, coming off of a 5-2 home victory over Big South foe on Winthrop
last Friday. Zack Lewis leads the team with a 2-0 singles record at the fifth
flight. Crescente Lesser and Charlie Ghriskey also each have a victory at the
third and fourth flight, respectively.
PC has won two of its last three matches, knocking off
Appalachian State and Wingate. William O'Connell (Nadi, Fiji), Grayson Mills
(Lilburn, Ga.) and Gonzalo Asis (Madrid, Spain) each have four wins on the
year. Mills' record comes exclusively at the top flight. The doubles pair of
Rafael Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) and Mills boasts a team-leading three
wins, all at No. 1. Asis also has three wins in doubles action.
The Blue Hose men's team will also play on Sunday at Furman
at 1:30 p.m.
The women (3-2) welcome Western Carolina on Sunday afternoon
at 1 p.m. The match marks the Catamounts' season opener after weather canceled
or postponed matches against Coastal Carolina, Young Harris College and Mars
Hill.
PC enters the weekend on a three-match winning streak
following last week's victories over Newberry, Delaware State and Savannah
State. Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil), Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) and
Lindsay Krause (Roswell, Ga.) pace the team with three singles wins apiece.
Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) has also compiled a 2-2 record at No. 1.
The doubles pairing of Haley Elliott (Greenville, S.C.) and
Alves has grabbed three doubles wins alongside the duo of deLoach and Kayla
Stanford (Canton, Ga.). The Blue Hose take a weeklong break from competition
before beginning Big South Conference play on Sunday at Longwood at 1 p.m.
