CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team
was predicted to finish 10th this season in the Big South Conference in an
annual poll of league coaches, the conference announced today.
PC received one eighth-place vote and finished two points
shy of Longwood in the ninth spot.
Winthrop leads the poll with nine of the conference's 10
first-place votes.
The Blue Hose feature a seasoned roster under head coach Catherine
Dunagan, in her second season at the helm. Lindsay Krause (Roswell, Ga.)
returns for her senior season while juniors Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil) and
Lucia Leahy (Charlotte, N.C.) both set high-water marks in single-season wins
last year. Sophomore Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) also established a new
freshman D-I record, with 13 singles victories this season.
The Blue Hose open the season on Saturday, January 26 at home against USC Upstate at 1 p.m.. The first Conference match will take place on
Saturday, Feb. 16, as Longwood hosts UNC Asheville. The Big South Women's
Tennis Conference Championship is slated for Wednesday-Saturday, April 17-20,
and will be hosted by Winthrop.
