Wasilewski Leads Blue Hose At Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Presbyterian College men's cross country team finished 23rd at the Adidas/Winthrop Invitational on Saturday morning. Junior Ryan Wasilewski led the Blue Hose for the first time in his career.

Wasilewski (Easley, S.C.) led the Blue Hose with an 8k time of 30:19. Close behind, a trio of runners finished within a 12-second span. Freshman Heath Owen (Columbia, S.C.) finished strong in 30:40, freshman Reid McCandless (Fort Mill, S.C.) crossed the line in 30:47, and junior Seth Warner (Fort Mill, S.C.) ran 30:52. Senior Brian Trail (Marion, S.C.) finished fifth for the team, stopping the clock in 31:57. In sixth for PC, sophomore JJ Carruth (Landrum, S.C.) ran 32:26.

Winthrop hosted 27 men's schools as well as 31 women's,  including four nationally ranked teams and a total of nine Big South Conference schools on the same course that will host the 2012 Big South Championships on Oct. 27.

Louisville placed five runners in the top-20 to claim the team title with 44 points.  The Cardinal's Ernest Kibet, a freshman, edged Upstate's Gilbert Kemboi, a senior, to win individual honors by a second, 24:13 to 24:14. Appalachian State (72) finished second, Liberty (85) third, Western Carolina (125) fourth, and High Point (160) fifth. Full results are attached to the article.

The Blue Hose will return to run in the Charlotte Invitational on Friday, September 28.
