ATHENS, Ga. – Presbyterian College men's tennis team members Grayson Mills (Lilburn, Ga.) and Rafael Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) battled their way to a doubles runner-up finish at the prestigious Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the University of Georgia over the weekend.

The Blue Hose pair began their doubles run on Friday, with an 8-5 victory over Vasily Eremeev and Ezequiel Gils of Tennessee Tech. On Sunday, the two held off Vanderbilt's Michael Retta and Kris Yee before deposing of Georgia Tech's Garrett Gordon and Vikram Hundal by an 8-5 score.

The championship match pitted the two against Mauricio Antun and Amerigo Contini of Virginia Tech. The Blue Hose nearly took the win, but the Hokies came away with a narrow 9-7 result.

Both Mills and Berghaus tested the field in singles play as well.

Berghaus won his first match, handing Jorge Wilton of Kennesaw State a straight sets defeat, 6-4, 6-2. The junior then dropped a tough match to Mercer's Austin Emmet, 7-6, 6-3.

Mills opened with a loss to Vanderbilt but recovered in the consolation bracket by knocking off Kentucky's Ryuji Hirooka (7-6 (2), 6-4) before falling just short to Clemson's Harrington Hunter, 5-7, 6-3, (10-7)

The 2012 tournament featured participants from 23 schools: Armstrong Atlantic, The Citadel, Clemson, East Tennessee State, Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Furman, Georgia, Georgia College, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Liberty, Lipscomb, Mercer, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, North Florida, Presbyterian, UT Chattanooga, Tennessee Tech, and Vanderbilt.

The Blue Hose will travel to Gardner-Webb next for the GWU Fall Classic the weekend of September 21.
