Blue Hose Falter against Wyoming, 3-1

Wyoming posted a hitting percentage close to 30 percent while holding the Presbyterian College volleyball team to under 10 percent en route to a 3-1 win in first day action of the UniWyo Wyoming Invite being held Aug. 24-25 in Laramie, Wyo.

PC drops to 0-2 on the young season while Wyoming goes to 1-0.

Wyoming led off the first game with a 7-0 run before the Blue Hose got on the board off a Cowgirl error to make it 7-1.  Wyoming continued its dominance, increasing its lead to 10 at 12-2 before PC staged a small comeback, posting key blocks and a kill by Ashtin Frank and Rachel Hall to cut the margin to 12-7.  PC wouldn't get any closer as Wyoming, up 15-9, went on a 10-0 run to take game one, 25-9.

The second game saw much of the same as the Cowgirls building an early 10-1 lead.  PC cut the deficit to 12-6 before Wyoming used a 13-3 run to win 25-9.

Down 15-10 in the third game, PC rattled off a 9-1 run, capitalizing on kills by Kelly Berryman, Allison Brown Frank and Hall, to erase the five point deficit and take a 19-16 lead.  Wyoming cut the lead to one at 20-19, but kills by Frank and Elizabeth Miler helped PC put the game away by the eventual 25-20 margin.

Andrea Barman started game four with back-to-back kills to give PC the early 2-0 lead.  Two Blue Hose miscues erased the lead, however.  Wyoming continued its run to take a 10-4 lead.  Kills by Miler and Berryman helped the Blue Hose make it a three-point game, 12-9.  Up 14-12, the Cowgirls used a 15-2 run to end the game, 25-14, and take the 3-1 match.

Barman led the Blue Hose with seven kills, with Hall and Frank following with five apiece.  Frank had 20 assists, with Mary Trimpe posting 17 digs.  Jodi Purdy led Wyoming with 13 kills.

The Cowgirls totaled 51 kills and had just 17 errors for a .293 hitting percentage.  PC recorded 28 kills and 23 errors for a .046 hitting percentage.

PC continues tournament action Saturday, Aug. 25th, taking on Eastern Washington at 11 a.m. and San Francisco at 7 p.m.  Both games are Eastern Time.
