CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team hits
the road to begin its final four-game road swing, beginning with a Tuesday matchup at Duke.
The Blue Hose enter the contest with a 22-29 overall record
after taking the first two games of a weekend series against Gardner-Webb, its
fourth Big South Conference series win of the season.
The team grabbed its ninth Big South win with Sunday's
victory, tying last year's tally as the most since playing its first Big South
schedule in 2008-09. Saturday's win also clinched its first series win over
Gardner-Webb in the Division I era.
Gabe Grammer hit in all five games last week to run his
hitting streak to nine games, the longest of any PC player this season. Andrew
Williams also saw a 16-game on-base streak end on Sunday, securing the Blue
Hose 2012 season record. Over the last five games, Nate Chong's .429 average
(6-for-14) and four RBI lead the team in both categories.
Kenny Bryant has enjoyed a career year this season, ranking in
the top 10 in several offensive categories: home runs (third), doubles (fifth),
total bases (sixth) and slugging percentage (ninth).
Duke holds a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series. In the
least meeting, the Blue Devils narrowly swept a doubleheader in 2010 by margins
of 7-5 and 7-6. Gabe Grammer hit a pair of home runs in the second game, driving
in three runs on the day. Tony Micklon also went 4-for-8 with two RBI.
The Blue Devils enter Tuesday's game with a 19-32 record
after a weekend sweep at the hands of No. 7 North Carolina. Mike Rosenfeld
leads the team with a .327 batting average and has tallied 30 RBI on the year.
PC wraps up its 2012 campaign this week with a season-ending
series at Campbell that begins on Thursday evening. The Blue Hose are 7-4 in
the state of North Carolina this season.
