CLINTON,
S.C. – Presbyterian
College football players Max Travis (Irmo, S.C.) and Justin Bethel (Blythewood,
S.C.) were named to the Big South Football Preseason All-Conference Defensive
and Offensive teams as voted on by the league coaches. The Blue Hose were picked to finish seventh
in the league's preseason poll.
Presbyterian College finished the
2010 season 2-9 overall and picked up its first Big South win with the 26-24
victory over Gardner Webb. Four Blue
Hose were selected to the Big South All-Conference team with Jared Tavernier
being named to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District team. PC finished the year in the top four in
several league categories, including rushing offense, pass defense, field goals
and red zone offense.
Liberty was picked to finish first
in the Big South with Stony Brook and Coastal Carolina following in second and
third. Charleston Southern and Gardner
Webb were voted to finish tied for fourth while VMI rounded out the top six.
Travis, a senior, started in all 11
games in 2010 and played multiple positions on the offensive line. He helped the PC offense rack up 3,353 yards
of total offense, including an average of 131.5 rushing yards per game. Travis blocked for two 1,000-yard rushers in
Trandon Dendon and Lance Byrd.
Bethel, a senior, was a 2010 Big
South Defensive All-Conference selection after recording a team-best 47
unassisted tackles. He was in the top 15
in the league in tackles per game with 5.9, his 6.6 in Big South play ranking
third. Bethel played and started in 10
games as a junior, after sitting out one with an injury.
Liberty's Mike Brown was selected as
the Big South Offensive Preseason Player of the Year while Coastal Carolina's
Andrae Jacobs was named Defensive Preseason Player of the Year.
PC opens the season Sept. 3 at home
