CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Freshman catcher Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) was named the Big South Conference's Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week on Tuesday for his stellar play in helping the Blue Hose go 3-1 last week.
The award marks the first time in his young career that Zebedis has captured the honor.
Zebedis batted .444 (8-18) in four games last week, including helping PC to a 4-3 win over No. 16 Clemson on March 16. He had two hits in each contest in addition to two doubles and one home run. Zebedis opened his week with a 2-5 day and two doubles against Clemson. His two-out, RBI-single in the second inning gave PC an early 1-0 lead over the Tigers.
On Friday against High Point, Zebedis knocked in two runs with his Big South-leading sixth home run of the season that sealed the Blue Hose's 4-1 series-opening win. He then singled twice and scored a run on Saturday against the Panthers, and finished the series with a 2-4 effort on Sunday. For the week, Zebedis slugged .722, had a .444 on-base percentage, scored three times and knocked in three runs.
Zebedis leads the league in batting average (.449), slugging percentage (.782), hits (35), runs batted in (24), total bases (61) and home runs (six). He ranks third in on-base percentage (.494) and fifth in runs scored (21).
UNC Asheville junior Ryan Dull (Winston-Salem, N.C.) was named the conference's The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week.
Zebedis and the PC nine will return to action on Wednesday when the team hosts Wofford at 3 p.m.
