CLINTON, S.C. - Head softball coach Dave Majeski, in conjunction with the Presbyterian College athletics department, is pleased to announce the addition of five student-athletes for the 2012 season in the early signing period.

Kayla Dunlap, Courtney Lawton, Shelby Petik, Haylie Wilson and Lyndsey York have all decided to continue their education at Presbyterian College.

Dunlap, a native of Apopka, Fla., is a 5-6 second baseman and outfielder.  A solid player for Lake Brantley H.S. and the Florida Ladyhawks, Dunlap hit .390 with her club team over the summer and has carried over a .500 on base percentage for the last two seasons with Lake Brantley.  She earned the coaches achievement award last season along with the scholar athlete award.

"Kayla was our unexpected gem of the signing class," said Majeski.  "We first saw her at our camp and we just had to include her on our team.  Her energy and desire is infectious and she is such a good fit for our program."

Lawton comes to PC from Abbeville, S.C. and has the versatility to play all infield positions as well as in the outfield.  In 2009, she was named all-region for her play at Greenwood H.S.  She claimed the offensive award as a sophomore.  She has excelled playing with the Carolina Elite travel ball team.

"Courtney comes to us from one of the best travel ball teams in the state," said Majeski.  "She is invaluable to us because she will be able to play a multitude of positions.  Having her on the team will give us the flexibility we have been looking for."

Petik is an outfielder and first baseman from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.  She hit .431 last season for Pompano Beach H.S.  and has claimed Sun-Sentinel first-team all-county honors two years running.  Last year she paired the high batting average with 26 runs and 15 RBI.  As a sophomore, she hit .534 with 23 runs and 24 stolen bases.  Petik also is a member of the Gold Coast Hurricanes travel ball team.

"After graduating three outfielders, Shelby will absolutely fit out biggest need," said Majeski.  "She is a five-tool player who will be counted on right away.  Offensively and defensively she is a solid, experienced athlete."

Wilson is a right-handed pitcher out of Middleburg, Fla.  She has been a star hurler at The Bolles School leading the team to a pair of state championship game appearances.  Last season, Wilson pitched to a 15-4 record with a 0.88 ERA and 232 strikeouts in 167 innings of work.  She was the 2010 FHSAA Class 3-A Pitcher of the Year to go along with all-state and all-first coast honors.  She picked up an all-state and all-first coast nod as a sophomore as well when she posted a 17-6 record and a 1.13 ERA with 185 strikeouts in 167 innings.  On the club side, her teams (Orlando No Fear and Miami Stingrays) have finished in the top-10 at ASA Nationals for the last three years.

"Haylie was at the top of our list of must-haves," said Majeski.  "So much of the game is predicated on pitching and she is a tried-and-true winner.  Her intensity and drive will enable her to accomplish big things for us."

York is an outfielder and catcher from Acworth, Ga.  In her senior season, York led the team to a Georgia Class 3-A state runner-up finish with Allatoona High School.  She hit .394 with a .529 on base percentage as a senior.  She is a four-time academic honor roll member to go along with her selection as the softball scholar-athlete in the 2010 season. 

"Lyndsey is such an impressive person on and off the field," said Majeski.  "She has succeeded in many areas including leading a 2-year old high school to the playoffs.  I'm very excited to add her speed to the lineup."
