CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College women's
basketball is proud to announce its 2010-11 slate of games which will take the
program through the final season of transition into Division I status.
"We're excited
about this year's schedule," said head coach Ronny Fisher. "Our staff has put together a very tough set
of non-conference games against top-caliber opposition which will prepare us
for Big South conference play which begins on Jan. 3 against Coastal Carolina."
The season opens
on Friday, Nov. 12 on the road against Virginia Tech for the second meeting of
the teams in the last three years.
The home
opener comes just four days later as PC faces long-time local rival Erskine at
the Templeton Center on Tuesday, Nov. 16.
A road trip to
North Carolina Central is next on the schedule on Nov. 20 followed by a trip to
South Carolina State on Tuesday, Nov. 23.
Following the Thanksgiving break, PC visits Furman on Nov. 27 to close
out the season's first month.
December dawns
with a home tilt against USC Upstate on Dec. 2 and is followed by four
consecutive road games against big-name opponents.
The Blue Hose
visit Clemson for the first time since 2008-09 on Dec. 5 and then take a break
for final exams. PC faces NC State on
Thursday, Dec. 16 in Raleigh before heading North for a date with Ohio
University on Dec. 19.
A break for
Christmas is ended with a Dec. 28 visit to South Carolina. The meeting will be the first in program
history with the SEC foe.
A four-game
home streak opens on Dec. 30 as future Big South opponent Campbell faces PC for
the first time ever. Big South competition
comes to town on January 3 against Coastal Carolina and continues with a Jan. 8
tilt against reigning conference champion Liberty.
In addition to
home-and-home series with all the Big South opponents, PC will take on Savannah
State twice in 2010-11. The home meeting
is on Jan. 11.
The Blue Hose
will then take to the road for trips to Charleston Southern (Jan. 15), Winthrop
(Jan. 17), Radford (Jan. 22) and Gardner-Webb (Jan. 24).
Another pair
of home games separate the next long road swing. High Point comes to Clinton on Jan. 29 and
UNC Asheville comes to the Templeton Center on Jan. 31.
February opens
with a four-game road swing beginning with a trip to Coastal Carolina on Feb. 5
and the return match with Savannah State on Feb. 7. The Blue Hose visit UNC Asheville on Feb. 12
and continue on to High Point for a Feb. 14 matchup with High Point.
The season's
final homestand spans four games and opens on Feb. 19 against Winthrop and
continues with Charleston Southern (Feb. 21), Gardner-Webb (Feb. 26) and
Radford (Feb. 28).
The 2010 season
finale is on March 7 on the road against Liberty.
"We've got a
great group of young women coming back for this season," added Fisher. "All of our returners started multiple games
last year. We also have five incoming
freshmen who are going to be a great asset to our program."
Nine players
return from 2009-10, all with starting experience. Big South Freshman of the Year Mariah Pietrowski
led the Blue Hose last year in scoring with 10.7 points per game. Sophomore Dria David also returns having
averaged 7.0 points per game and 5.4 boards per contest. Out of the nine returners, just three are upperclassmen
with the lone junior, Kristen Stevens, and a pair of seniors in Amanda Mills
and Chelsea Wright.
All of PC's
home games as well as every road Big South game will be broadcast on the Big
