CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College athletic department, in
conjunction with men's basketball coach Gregg Nibert, is pleased to announce
the 2010-11 schedule.
"This year's schedule will again be one of the toughest and most challenging
schedules in the country," Nibert said. "We are playing multiple NCAA
Tournament teams such as Vanderbilt to open the season, Elite Eight competitor
Kansas State in the College Basketball Experience Tournament as well as Wake
Forest and Old Dominion. Also returning to the Blue Hose schedule is SEC foe
Auburn.
"We will also be playing James Madison, Bucknell and Princeton, which will get
our team ready to face our Big South Conference schedule, which begins on the
road against Liberty and VMI.
"Our team will also have other exciting non-conference games as we begin
home-and-home series against Navy and Eastern Kentucky. Both schools will come
to Clinton during the 2011-2012 year, along with Western Carolina, Furman and
Army."
The Blue Hose open the season at annual NCAA Tournament participant Vanderbilt
on Nov. 12. The team will then take on 2009-10 Elite Eight power Kansas State
in Manhattan, Ks., Nov. 18 as part of the
College
Basketball Experience Tournament.
After traveling to Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 20, Nibert's team will take
part in the regional games of the College Basketball Experience Tournament,
which will be hosted by James Madison. The Blue Hose will take on the host
Dukes Nov. 22, Bucknell Nov. 23 and Princeton on Nov. 24.
The month of December kicks off with a road trip to take on Liberty and VMI in
the Big South's early conference games. PC will take on the Flames Dec. 2 and
VMI Dec. 4.
The Blue Hose will have a few days off to take finals before traveling to
Columbia, Mo., to take on the Missouri Tigers of the Big 12 on Dec. 11.
On Dec. 15, PC fans will get a chance to watch their team in the Templeton
Center as the squad will host Jacksonville State. A year ago, the teams met in
the BracketBusters game. PC earned its first road win of the season against the
Gamecocks and helped the Big South go 2-2 in the prestigious event.
The Blue Hose will have their bags packed and ready to go as they take on SEC
foe Auburn Dec. 18. From there, PC will make the trek to Winston-Salem, N.C.,
for a date with the Demon Deacons Dec. 21. Two days later, Nibert's team will
take on 2010 NCAA Tournament participant Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.
The team will break briefly for the holidays before traveling to Winthrop for a
New Year's Eve showdown. On Jan. 2, the squad will play the first game of a
home-and-home series with Navy in Annapolis, Md.
On Jan. 6, PC will take on the Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb. Two days later, the Blue Hose host UNC
Asheville.
PC will make the trek to the coast Jan. 13 to play Charleston Southern. On Jan.
15, the Blue Hose will play at Coastal Carolina before returning home for three
straight games.
Nibert's team will host High Point (Jan. 20), Radford (Jan. 22) and Winthrop
(Jan. 29) before embarking on its last long road trip of the year.
The next three games are away from the friendly confines of the Templeton
Center as the experienced Blue Hose will take the court at High Point (Feb. 1),
UNC Asheville (Feb. 3) and Gardner-Webb (Feb. 5).
PC hosts Coastal Carolina (Feb. 10) and Charleston Southern (Feb. 12) before
heading to Virginia for the fourth time during the 2010-11 season. The Blue
Hose will battle the Highlanders Feb. 15 in the last road game of the year for
PC.
Nibert's team will then return home for three consecutive games to close out
the last year of the transition to full Division I status.
On Feb. 19, the team will host a yet to be named school as part of the
BracketBusters weekend. PC will then close the season with home games against
VMI (Feb. 24) and Liberty (Feb. 26).
"We are extremely excited about taking part in the Bracketbusters," Nibert
said. "It was a wonderful experience last year and we want to continue building
a solid foundation and playing in the wonderful event."
This year, the Blue Hose return one of the strongest line-ups in PC's history
with the return of redshirt-senior Walt Allen. Redshirt-juniors Al'Lonzo
Coleman, Josh Johnson and Pierre Miller all return after sitting out the
2009-10 season. Combined with the amount of experience the underclassmen
obtained last year and a strong incoming rookie class, PC should be at the top
of the talented Big South Conference.
The Blue Hose will have one exhibition game this year. It will be a home date
against former South Atlantic Conference rival Newberry on Nov. 4.
"Our opening exhibition game against Newberry will be exciting as the two teams
haven't played since PC moved to Division I," Nibert said. "This is a great
rivalry for these two schools to play again."
"We are extremely excited about the upcoming season," Nibert said. "We have the
most leadership and experience coming back than we've had since making the move
to Division I."
