ELON, N.C. - The Presbyterian College women's tennis team dropped a 7-0
match to Elon Friday afternoon.
The Blue Hose now stand at 1-7 on the year while the Phoenix improved to 10-3.
Four of the singles matches went to three sets as PC pushed the envelope on
such a strong team.
At the third spot, Paige Oelke lost a 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-4) match to
Briana Berne. At the No. 4 slot, Megan Davis lost the first set 6-1 before
bouncing back to take the second set by a commanding 6-2 score. However, she
was unable to keep up the momentum in the third set, falling 1-0 (10-4). Cara
Caruso, who saw time at the No. 5 position, dropped a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 fight
against Hayley Wahl.
Lindsay Krause, playing at the No. 6 position, won the second set 6-3 after
losing 6-0 in the first stanza. Krause was defeated 1-0 (10-1) in the
tiebreaker.
Top-seeded Heather Heusel started out strong, but fell 6-3, 6-0 to Anna Milian
while Olivia McMillan lost a 6-1, 6-1 battle to Elisa Simonetti at the second
spot.
In doubles play, Heusel and Oelke took three points off of Milian and
Simonetti, but fell 8-3 at the No. 1 position. Third-seeded Krause and Davis
lost 8-3 to Berne and Graybill while Virginia Waldron and McMillan fought hard,
but lost 8-0.
The Blue Hose will look to get back to the win column
tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. against Converse.
