Gene from Seneca asks:
Are there still plans to create a Gen. Stonewall Jackson trophy to enhance the
football rivalry with VMI and to replace the Bronze Derby tradition?
Gene,
We had some very preliminary discussion
about developing such a trophy to award each year's winner of the football game
between VMI and PC. As of now, we have
no formal plans for this, and haven't discussed this with VMI for some time. Interestingly, Dr. Griffith and I recently discussed
how we might pursue this - perhaps using some other vehicle such as "Leadership"
or "Leadership Through Service" for commemorating the game.
So our thoughts about this are still
evolving. Thanks for keeping the thought
alive!
Sara from Charlotte asks:
According to your staff directory, you lack some key personnel and full staffs.
What are your plans towards adding some positions and improving the ones you
have that are part-time in order to improve the transition to Division I?
Sara,
This is an important issue to all of
us. In 2006 the Board of Trustees
approved our Strategic Plan for Athletics that included adding 21 positions (12
coaches and 9 administrators) to our athletic staff. We have added many of these positions but due
to resource constraints some have been added as part time employees and some
positions have not been added. The need
for these positions still exists and we plan to add these positions as soon as
possible. The Strategic Plan for
Athletics still serves as our road map for the transition.
Bill from Danville asks:
I really like being able to watch games streamed on the internet. How many
games will be online this year and in what sports?
Bill,
Thank you for this question. Following the Blue Hose on the internet is an
inexpensive, convenient way to stay in touch whenever you can't see your teams
play in person.
We are in the process of expanding
our video streaming operations under the direction of our Sports Information
Director, Brent Hager. For the first
time this fall, we will video stream all home volleyball matches. Like last year, we will video stream all home
football games. We will also video
stream at least one home men's and women's soccer match during the season;
these games will be part of the Big South "game-of-the-week" videostreaming
package. Once basketball season begins, we
will videostream all home games for our men's and women's basketball teams. Then for the spring season, we will video
stream at least one baseball game and one softball game as part of the Big
South's game-of-the-week package and possibly other events as well. We have video streamed our press conferences
and will continue to videostream any significant campus activity. As
facility improvements permit, we will continue to expand our video streaming
service for our fans.
Additionally, all Big South
conference football and basketball games will be videostreamed by other
conference members. There will be
games-of-the-week broadcast in other sports, too - the information about these
events may be found on www.bigsouthsports.com
by logging onto the Big South Network. So
including all home contests and away contests that will be videostreamed by us
and other conference members, several dozen Blue Hose games will be available
for viewing on the internet in 2009-10.
Timothy from Atlanta asks:
I've heard that Jason Childs has resigned his coaching position. Will PC be
able to offer an employment package that will be able to draw an experienced,
and qualified D1 lacrosse coach?
Timothy,
As for every search we conduct, we
will put together the best possible package in order to hire an experienced and
qualified coach who is the best "fit" for Blue Hose lacrosse. We expect to have an applicant pool of very
qualified coaches from whom we'll choose an outstanding leader for our men's
lacrosse team.
