CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College men’s tennis players Ben Kelley and Jaime Castillo-Lopez swept the Big South’s weekly honors, the league announced on Wednesday. Kelley was named the Player of the Week, while Castillo-Lopez earned the Freshman of the Honor.
Kelley went 5-0 overall across three matches last week, including 3-0 in singles play. He proved consistent throughout the two days, winning four of his six sets in singles by score of 6-2. Kelley, teamed up with Joel Roberts at No. 1 doubles, won 7-5 and 6-3 in their two matches last week as well. On the year, the native of Weaverville, N.C. is now 7-1 in singles play and 5-2 in doubles.
Castillo-Lopez recorded a 4-0 weekend in the Alabama State Invitational, highlighted by a 3-0 mark in doubles action. In his only singles action, Castillo-Lopez claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 against Alabama A&M. He recorded a flawless 6-0 victory with Diego Manzanas at No. 2 doubles against A&M as well. The first-year player also managed wins of 6-4 and 7-5 at No. 3 doubles with Manzanas to claim his first weekly honor.
The honor is the second of Kelley’s career. He also earned the league’s top weekly honor in 2015.
The Blue Hose return to action on Friday with a home match against Furman at 3 p.m.
