CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team tied a season-high of 18 hits en route to defeating North Carolina A&T, 12-8, at the PC Baseball Complex on Wednesday. The Blue Hose improve their record to 10-21 overall, while the Aggies fall to 14-15 this season.

How It Happened

The Aggies jumped out to a four-run lead in the top of the first inning. Greg White doubled down the right field line on the game’s first pitch. NC A&T then recorded four straight singles to score three of the runs. The final run scored on a James Rorie fielder’s choice to third base.

In the bottom of the first inning, PC replied with four runs on five hits. Andrew Bladt, Jonathan White, and AJ Priaulx singled to load the bases for Jack McLaughlin. The senior first baseman then doubled down the left field line to make the score 4-2. Priaulx then scored on an RBI single from Nick Wise. PC scored its last run of the inning when Wise was caught in a run down attempting to steal second. The shortstop froze to check McLaughlin back to third but saw him crossing the plate and tying the game at 4-4.

The Blue Hose would go on to extend their lead by scoring eight more runs on 11 hits over the next three innings. White and Priaulx had RBI singles to go with a McLaughlin sac fly in the bottom of the second. Michael Varga hit a two-run home run, Nick Guimbara had an RBI double, and White had another RBI single in the third inning. Tannor Byrd scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning.

NC A&T scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Myles Sowell hit the first pitch over the left field fence. Two batters later, Milton Rivera hit a 3-run home run to left field to bring the Aggies within three, 11-8. Eric Miles came on in relief for starter Andrew Durden and shut the Aggies down with 3.0 scoreless innings.

The Blue Hose would hang on for a 12-8 win.

Pitchers of Record

Eric Miles (5-3) picked up the win throwing 3.0 nearly perfect innings. The sophomore allowed two hits and had two strikeouts.

Ethan Chavis (1-3) took the loss for NC A&T after allowing seven runs on eight hits and striking out three over 2.0 innings.

Notables

AJ Priaulx eclipsed 100 RBI and 150 hits for hits career with a 3-for-4 performance on Wednesday. He now has 152 hits and exactly 100 RBI in 499 at bats.

With Michael Varga’s home run in the third inning, the Blue Hose have gone long in five consecutive games.

PC has now recorded 18 hits in a game twice this season. The team last accomplished this feat when it had a pair of 19-hit games and a 20-hit game in 2015.
