Gardner-Webb spoiled Senior Day for the Blue Hose, opening the game with a 23-8 run and holding on for the 78-63 win over the Presbyterian College men’s basketball team in Big South action Thursday evening in Clinton, S.C.  Reggie Dillard led PC with 16 points., followed by Ruben Arroyo and JC Younger with 13 points apiece.


Scoring the Match

Gardner-Webb shot 56.7% in the first half, while holding the Blue Hose to 37.0%, as the Runnin’ Bulldogs opened up a double-digit lead eight minutes into the contest, extending it to 23, 38-15, with 2:51 left.  PC fought back, outscoring the visitors, 9-4, to head to the locker room trailing by 18, 42-24.  Highlighting the first half for PC was the 10-point from JC Younger, who was four-of-seven from the field. GWU’s David Efianayi was hot in the first as well, posting 15 in the first stanza.


The Blue Hose matched Gardner-Webb almost point for point the opening four minutes, with GWU holding a 20-point lead, 54-34, 15:57 left.  Leading 58-36 off a Reggie Dillard lay-up at 13:14, Gardner-Webb scored seven unanswered to make it a 29-point game, 11:40 on the clock.  PC responded with back to back three-pointers from Dillard and Younger to cut the margin to 23, 65-42, cutting it to 20 again off another Dillard three at 9:41, as part of a PC 11-2 run.


GWU built back a 23-point lead, but Romeo Crouch hit is first and second three-pointers of the night to make it a 17-point game 4:25 on the clock.  Gardner-Webb went back ahead, 78-57 with just over three to play, with PC scoring the game’s last six points to cut it to the final score of 15, 78-63.


Player of the Game

Reggie Dillard scored 14 of his team-leading 16 points in the second half, helping the Blue Hose in a late rally.  JC Younger and Ruben Arroyo followed with 13 apiece.  Armel TeTe and Arroyo finished with five rebounds each.  Davon Bell recorded a career-high tying nine assists.  David Efianayi paced Gardner-Webb with 31 points, with Liam O’Reilly on top in rebounds with 10


Stat of the Match

Gardner-Webb shot 53.7%, with PC shooting 44.1%, including 50.0% in the second half.  The Blue Hose hit eight three-pointers, to GWU’s seven, with the Bulldogs going 13-of-15 from the charity stripe and PC going three-of-six.  GWU edged PC in rebounds, 32-30, and had two less turnovers, 8-10.



  • - Davon Bell’s career-high tying nine assists tied for eighth in the PC Division I record book.


For the Record

PC drops to 11-19 overall and 4-13 in the Big South, while Gardner-Webb improves to 13-17, 8-9.
