The Presbyterian College volleyball team closed out its 2017 road season with a close 3-1 loss to UNC Asheville in Asheville, N.C. PC took set one, 25-23, but dropped the next three 20-25, 15-25, and 19-25. Erin Eulitz and Ashton Stewart led the team with 11 kills apiece.
Scoring the Match
PC came out of the gates strong in set one, taking a 5-1 lead before extending it to 9-2 off two service aces from Allie Wright and a kill from Erin Eulitz. Helped in part by a 7-1 run, UNC Asheville clawed its way back to tie the set at 11-11. Tied for the seventh time in a back and forth battle at 20-20, PC rattled off three unanswered to make it 23-20. A 3-1 run by the Bulldogs cut the margin to one at 24-23, but a Caroline Henderson kill ended the rally and set with PC on top 25-23.
A tight second set throughout, both teams found the lead at times but neither could extend it beyond three, until the Bulldogs used back to back kills to turn a 14-12 lead to 16-12. PC cut the margin to two on several more occasions, including 18-16, but two straight from Asheville madeit four again at 20-16. It was the start of a 4-1 run that saw the Bulldogs take their largest lead of the set, 22-17. PC cut it to four at 23-19, and against at 24-20 off a Wright kill, but that was it as Cecilia Stack helped the Bulldogs take the second set, 25-20.
A strong start for Asheville in set three, the Bulldogs opened up with a 7-1 lead, extending it to 18-6, in part to three straight PC errors. An Ashton Stewart kill ended a Bulldog 6-0 run, but the home team came back with two more to make it 20-7. PC went on a 7-3 run to cut the margin back to nine, 23-14, but it was Asheville with the next two of the set’s three points to win it, 25-15.
Asheville led set four early but PC rallied with a 4-1 run to tie it at 8-8. The Bulldogs snapped a 13-13 tie later in the set, going on a 6-1 run to build a 19-14 lead, extending it to 22-15 off an Asheville3-1 run. PC made it 22-16 but it was Asheville with the next two to reach match point, 24-26. PC rattled off three straight off back to back blocks and a Eulitz kill, but it was Asheville at the end with an Ansley Rooks kill to stop the rally and give the home team the 25-19 fourth set and match win.
Player of the Match
Three Blue Hose finished with double-digit kills, with Erin Eulitz and Ashton Stewart leading with 11 apiece. Allie Wright recorded 10 on the night. Stewart paced the team in blocks as well with three solo blocks and two block assists. Cara Guthrie led Asheville with 20 kills.
Stat of the Match
UNC Asheville recorded 51 kills to PC’s 38, and had two less errors, 24-26, to finish with a .182 attack percentage. PC posted a .071. The Bulldogs held the 9-5 advantage in service aces, but had two fewer blocks, 8.0-10.0.
The 63 attack attempts by Erin Eulitz broke PC’s Division I record for attack attempts in a four set match, it was second overall.
The 170 team attempts tied for fifth in attempts in a four set match.
Ashton Stewart’s career-high three solo blocks tied for seventh in the record books.
The team’s six total blocks tied for 11th in the PC record book.

PC drops to 8-22 overall and 4-11 in the Big South, while UNC Asheville improves to 12-14, 8-7..
