Stat of the Game
Turnovers hurt PC, especially in the first half. The Blue hose turned the ball over 16 times in the first 20 minutes, compared to just three for Liberty, with the Flames executing 11 steals. The Flames scored 20 of their first 30 points off those PC miscues, with PC recording five. For the game PC held a 26-6 advantage in turnovers. Liberty recorded a 37-9 margin in points off turnovers and posted 17 total steals.
How It Happened
Liberty opened the scoring with a free throw but it was all PC the next four minutes as the Blue Hose used an 11-2 run to build an 11-3 lead with 11:08 to go in the half. Liberty, which had just one field goal until that point, scored 11 straight in close to a three-minute span to take a 14-11 lead. An Ed Drew lay-up at 6:16 cut the margin to one, 14-13, but back to back three-pointers by A.C. Reid and Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz increased Liberty’s lead to seven, 20-13, 4:55 before intermission. Trailing 25-13, Reggie Dillard hit back to back three-pointers to cut the margin to 25-19, before Liberty closed out the half with a 5-2 run to go into the locker room leading 30-21.
The Flames extended their lead to 16, 43-27, but a Darius Moore three-pointer, his second of the night, cut the margin to 13. It was short-lived as John Dawson’s third three-pointer of the night, and second in a minute, made it 16 again. Trailing by 19, PC hit five straight free throws and cut the margin to 14, 51-36, 8:23 left. That would be as close as PC would get as the Flames used a seven unanswered to build a 21-point lead, 58-37, 6:17 remaining. PC got as close as 18 late, but it wsa Liberty at the end with the 71-51 lead.
PC led in rebounds for the eighth time this season and for the second in a row, pacing Liberty 32-20
Ed Drew scored double-digits for the 10th time this season. He posted double-digit scoring games 11 times his first three seasons combined.
PC shot over 40% for the 12th time this season after shooting 44.4%.
