CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team hosts Gardner-Webb for the final series of the 2014 season as the Blue Hose and Runnin' Bulldogs meet at the PC Baseball Complex on Friday and Saturday.
The teams will play Friday at noon and 3:30 p.m. before Saturday at 1 p.m. Saturday's game will feature a Senior Day ceremony for Nate Chong (Duluth, Ga.), Chandler Knox (Columbia, S.C.), Brandon Paul (Augusta, Ga.), Paul Sanders (St. Simons Island, Ga.), Chad White (Suwanee, Ga.) and Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) prior to first pitch.
PC (17-33-1, 7-17 Big South) went 2-3 last week, erasing a four-run deficit in the ninth inning to top Wofford on Monday in extra innings, 11-10, and taking a 6-3 win from No. 26 UCF on Saturday. PC scored two runs in the eighth inning, four in the ninth and one in the 10th to take the victory over Wofford. Two weeks prior, PC came back from down three-runs in the ninth against the same pitcher to topple Wofford. Freshman Robert Moss (Jupiter, Fla.) earned his first career victory in the win and fellow freshman reliever Ethan Wortkoetter (Greer, S.C.) earned his third of the season in Saturday's win over UCF.
Jacob Midkiff (Rock Hill, S.C.) leads the team with a .316 batting average while Brad Zebedis's (Rock Hill, S.C.) .403 on-base percentage and Cam McRae's (Darlington, S.C.) five home runs and 29 RBIs pace PC in those categories. Senior pitcher Chandler Knox (Columbia, S.C.) will look for his Division I record-setting seventh win of the season this weekend. The righthander's six tie Steven Richardson's 2011 mark for most in a PC D-I campaign.
Gardner-Webb (23-27, 10-13 Big South) swept William & Mary in a non-conference series last weekend before dropping a 7-2 matchup to North Carolina on Tuesday night. The weekend prior, Campbell took two of three from the Runnin' Bulldogs, who will look to move up in the Big South's South Division before the season's end. Matt Simmons leads the team with a .319 batting average while Scott Coleman checks in with a .293 average and paces the squad in home runs (five), RBI (36) and on-base percentage (.385). Gardner-Webb holds opponents to a .254 batting average and enters with a 3.49 team earned run average.
