CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Presbyterian College junior Grayson Mills (Lilburn, Ga.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while teammate Danny Bruce (Marietta, Ga.) has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for matches played April 8-14, it was announced today by the League office.
Mills went 4-0 in both his singles and doubles matches last week. He helped the Blue Hose to a crucial League win over Winthrop by outlasting Winthrop's Dylan Comerford, 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, while he and partner Rafael Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. Mills concluded the regular-season with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Charlotte's Jack Williams and an 8-6 No. 1 doubles win. This is Mills' first Player of the Week honor this season.
Bruce secured a No. 3 singles point in the 4-3 win over Winthrop, defeating Yuta Hirokawa 6-1, 6-1. In the match against Charlotte, he defeated Alex Calott 6-4, 6-4, while he and partner Edward Snead won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles. The honor marks Bruce's fourth Freshman of the Week honor this season.
PC has earned the No. 3 seed and play No. 6 Gardner-Webb (9-10, 3-5 Big South) in the quarterfinals of the Big South Conference Men's Tennis Championship on Thursday at the Winthrop Memorial Courts in Rock Hill, S.C. The match is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
