No. 3 PC to Play Gardner-Webb in Big South Championship Quarterfinals Thursday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Presbyterian College men's tennis team (19-9, 5-3 Big South) has received the No. 3 seed and will play No. 6 Gardner-Webb (9-10, 3-5 Big South) in the quarterfinals of the Big South Conference Men's Tennis Championship on Thursday at the Winthrop Memorial Courts in Rock Hill, S.C. The match is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.

PC's 5-3 record tied for third with Winthop, but the team's 4-3 win over the Eagles on Friday provided the tiebreaker.

Last year, the seventh-seeded Blue Hose became the first No. 7 team to win a Big South Conference Championship match en route to an historic runner-up finish.

In the one meeting earlier this season, PC handled the Runnin' Bulldogs 5-2 on March 25 by sweeping the doubles point and using wins from William O'Connell (Nadi, FijI), Danny Bruce (Marietta, Ga.), Andrew Brigham (Birmingham, England) and Gonzalo Asis (Madrid, Spain).

Asis leads the team with 20 singles wins, a spotless 8-0 league record and a 12-match winning streak from the sixth flight. Brigham became the sixth Blue Hose with at least 10 singles wins this season with a victory on Sunday against Charlotte.

Coastal Carolina finished the season with an 8-0 Big South record and was named the Big South Men's Tennis Regular-Season Champion, it was determined today as the Conference season concluded this afternoon.  The Chanticleers earned the No. 1 seed.

Campbell earned the No. 2 seed with a 6-2 Conference mark. Radford's 4-4 record in League play was good for the No. 5 seed.  Gardner-Webb and Liberty finished Big South competition with 3-5 records, but with the tiebreaker procedure, the Runnin' Bulldogs earned the No. 6 position and the Flames landed the No. 7 spot.  UNC Asheville picked up the No. 8 seed as it finished with a 2-6 League record, while new Big South member Longwood rounds out the seeding with its 0-8 record against Conference opponents.
