CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's tennis team (17-9, 4-3 Big South) hosts Winthrop (9-10, 5-1 Big South) on Friday in its home finale at the Templeton Tennis Courts. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
Prior to the match, the Blue Hose will honor seniors Andrew Brigham (Birmingham, England), William O'Connell (Nadi, Fiji) and Edward Snead IV (Greenwood, S.C.). The trio has combined for 77 singles wins and 104 doubles wins in their time at PC, with Brigham ranking second (42) in PC's Division I history.
The Blue Hose went 2-0 last week, knocking off UNC Asheville and Campbell in 4-3 verdicts. All six Blue Hose regulars picked up at least one win, with Gonzalo Asis (Madrid, Spain) picking up two wins. Grayson Mills (Lilburn, Ga.) earned PC's first-ever Division I over a nationally-ranked opponent with a top-flight victory over Campbell on Sunday.
Asis's 19-4 record leads the squad and the junior has been perfect in conference play with a 7-0 record at the sixth flight. Danny Bruce (Marietta, Ga.) ranks second with 16 wins and O'Connell also has 15 singles wins. All of Grayson Mills's 12 wins have come at the top flight. Mills and Rafael Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) boast a 14-9 record together (4-3 in the Big South) to lead the team in doubles play.
Winthrop enters Friday on a four-match win streak, taking down Liberty, Gardner-Webb, UNC Asheville and Radford since March 22. Juan Boada and Peter Nagovnak share the team lead with eight singles wins while the Eagles have gone 23-13 in Big South singles matches and 13-5 in league doubles contests.
PC wraps up its regular season on Sunday with a road match against Charlotte at 1 p.m.
