ORLANDO, Fla. – The Presbyterian College men's tennis team
kicked off its Spring Break slate in Orlando with a convincing 7-0 victory over
Southern New Hampshire on Monday morning.
PC moves to 8-6 overall by capturing its fourth straight
win. Southern New Hampshire, a Division II school, stays at 6-0 as the match
counts as an exhibition for the Penmen. PC will next take on Southern Illinois-Edwardsville
and South Dakota State on Tuesday.
The Blue Hose swept doubles play before defeating the Penmen
in six two-set singles matches.
Nathan Crocker (Clinton, S.C.) made his 2013 singles debut in
winning fashion by handling Brad Malenich at the fourth-flight, 6-0, 6-2. At
the fifth flight, Steven Weaver (Charleston, S.C.) moved to 3-0 on the year
with a victory over Alex Mukdaprakorn, 6-1, 6-4.
P.H. Broyhill (Hickory, N.C.) also grabbed a victory to improve
to 2-0 by dispatching Tim Hamilton at the sixth-flight, 6-1, 6-0.
At the top two flights, Grayson Mills (Lilburn, Ga.) handled
Mitch Dobek, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 while Rafael Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) took a
second-flight match from Juan Arango-Campo, 6-4, 6-1.
Danny Bruce picked up his team-leading ninth win by handling
Mike Wallace, 6-4, 6-0.
Two PC doubles pairs won matches by 8-0 margins. William O'Connell
(Nadi, Fiji) and Andrew Brigham (Birmingham, England) shut out Dobek and Mike
Wallace while Mills and Berghaus blanked Evan Eaton and Malenich.
At No. 3, Bruce and Edward Snead IV (Greenwood, S.C.)
upended Arango-Campo and Hamilton, 8-1.
